EFFECTIVE COMMAND LEVEL 2 OFFICER

This course builds on the skills developed during the Level 1 Officer Course and prepares officers to lead effectively in large-scale, high-risk, and extended operational incidents.

Suitable for District Chiefs and Chiefs of Smaller Fire Departments

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Understand key roles and responsibilities within the Incident Command structure

Understand command and leadership principles within Incident Command

Apply effective decision-making during operational incidents

Understand and apply the principles of risk management

Understand effective communication methods during operational incidents

Understand the principles of joint working and interoperability with partner agencies

Assess and determine the status of operational incidents

Assume responsibility for actions that support personnel and agencies involved in

operational incidents

Review and evaluate responses to operational incidents

A classroom-based command course designed for senior officers responsible for managing complex incidents and coordinating multi-agency or multi-department responses.

Course Structure:

Classroom-based course

Delivered using a fully immersive incident simulation

Maximum of 8 students per course

Students participate in 16 simulated incident scenarios

Course Content:

Advanced Incident Command leadership and decision-making

Multi-agency and multi-department incident management

Scenario-based command simulations

Strategic and tactical decision-making exercises

Student-led operational debriefs

Continuous coaching and mentoring throughout the course

Course scenarios and content can be tailored to reflect organizational risks, operational environments and local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
